My Story
Like many former athletes, I faced the lasting effects of physical injuries. Years of wear and tear eventually led to spondylolisthesis and sciatica, bringing excruciating pain to my back and legs. At one point, even simple daily movements felt impossible.
To manage this chronic and debilitating condition, my doctors suggested something I hadn’t considered before: yoga. Initially, I was skeptical, but yoga became a pivotal turning point in my healing journey. Through consistent practice, I learned how to live with my condition rather than fight against it. I discovered how to be kinder to myself, to listen to my body, and to honor its unique path to recovery.
The transformation was so profound that I felt called to go deeper. I completed my first yoga teacher training in 2012 and continued my education as a Health Coach through Duke Integrative Medicine. There, I was introduced to the Wheel of Health—a model that encompasses the full spectrum of well-being, from physical and emotional to spiritual and social health.
Becoming a Yoga Therapist was the natural next step. My passion lies in the therapeutic application of yoga — using movement, breath, mindfulness, and stillness to support healing in a holistic way. Today, I work with a wide range of individuals, including those recovering from surgeries or cancer, living with neuro-motor degenerative diseases, managing arthritis or osteoporosis, or simply seeking to strengthen their bodies and calm their minds.
If you’re navigating chronic pain, recovery, or the search for balance, I’m here to support you, not just as a teacher, but as someone who’s walked the path of healing firsthand.

On a personal note, I share my life with three wonderful dogs — Bolt, Olive, and Django — who keep me grounded and bring endless joy to my days. I find creativity and peace in the kitchen, where I love cooking vegetarian meals, baking sourdough bread, and making fruit pies (especially cherry). You’ll often find me in the garden, hands in the dirt, tending to whatever’s in season.
This work is more than a profession — it’s a deeply personal journey. I’m here to support others on their path to healing, with compassion, presence, and a belief in the body’s innate wisdom.

Alternative and Complementary Treatments for Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is defined by a cluster of cardiovascular disease risk factors that are associated with insulin resistance. In recent years, a number of innovative nutritional strategies have been proposed as safe alternative treatments to reduce the morbidity as well as the cost of treating metabolic syndrome. Of these, dietary supplementation with chromium picolinate or cinnamon extract has been studied most extensively. These interventions may attenuate insulin resistance and reduce the cardiovascular risk factors that together comprise the metabolic syndrome. However, more clinical trials are needed to determine the dose and duration of such treatments to make specific recommendations for populations with metabolic syndrome.
