Yoga Therapy for Healthcare Integration

A Complementary, Evidence-Informed Approach to Patient Care

Yoga Therapy is a personalized, holistic modality that integrates the tools of traditional yoga — including movement, breath regulation, and mindfulness — with modern principles from anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, and psychology. It is designed to support individuals facing a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional health challenges.

Unlike group yoga instruction, Yoga Therapy is a one-on-one or small-group intervention. Sessions are tailored to each client’s specific needs, functional capacity, and clinical context, and may be used as a complementary practice alongside conventional medical treatment, physical therapy, or psychotherapy.

Core components of Yoga Therapy may include:

  • Adapted therapeutic postures and movement (asana) for mobility, strength, and pain modulation

  • Breath training (pranayama) to regulate the autonomic nervous system and reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, or fatigue

  • Guided relaxation, mindfulness, and meditative practices to support emotional regulation and cognitive clarity

  • Lifestyle coaching aligned with yogic philosophy and contemporary behavioral health principles

Yoga Therapy has been shown in research to support the management of conditions such as:

  • Chronic pain (e.g., low back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia)

  • Post-surgical recovery and rehabilitation

  • Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and stress-related disorders

  • Neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s, MS)

  • Cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic conditions

  • Sleep disturbances and fatigue

At MVP Wellness and Yoga Therapy, our certified yoga therapist works in collaboration with patients and, when appropriate, with referring providers to develop safe and goal-oriented treatment plans. Each program respects the individual's age, cultural background, belief system, functional status, and personal goals, providing a supportive environment for recovery, resilience, and long-term self-management.
